hi,
my third bristle nose catfish has just completely disappeared from my
tank - i guess some little b***** is eating them - but the question is
who? I have one male guppy - only a few months old, one female guppy
(age unknown) and 3 baby guppies, 4 pencil fish, 2 harlequin tetras and
1 neon tetra - so is it possible the guppy is eating them? he is half
the size of the catfish.
can anyone suggest an algae eater that would be able to live in the
same tank as the catfish eater?
thanks

From looking at your fish list it is unlikely that anyone has killed
and eaten your bristle nose catfish.....there is a potential that if
they died that the fish might opportunistically take a munch....either
your catfish just died and have rotted away or been eaten once dead, or
potentially if you have a lot of hiding places and they are still in
there....
In one tank that I have, a 47.5UK gall I was certain that my amano
shrimp had been eaten but 3 months after no sign of them they turned
up....I rarely see the plec in that tank but then from time to time
catch a glimpse of him....ottos are even worse.....I know they are there
but sometimes think it is an act of faith to believe that.....and hey,
ho they turn up....
In another tank we lost 4 Yoyo loaches without trace.....that was over a
year ago so I don't think they are going to reappear....nothing in the
tank was a potential killer.....
I read somewhere that the higher temps in a tropical tank cause the
bodies to decompose quicker than they would in a cold water
tank.....this could be the case....
Personally I would have a thorough search of the tank.....then test out
my water parameters to make sure that there is nothing wrong there that
might have killed them.....then if I really wanted bristle nose catfish
I would try again....

Have you looked for crispy critters behind or around the tank stand? In our
house any fish that hits the floor is quickly eaten by one of the dogs. :-(
