Pond Over Flow Issues

Hey everyone I have a question for ya'll

I have a pond and a creek, to a hidden pond layout. When I run the
pump, the upper pond fills up and runs down the creek. I say fills up
because when the pump isn't running, it settles about 4 inches. If I
adjust the part that goes into the creek, the pond will overflow its
banks. Same with the creek, I run it right to the edge of flooding.

When the pump is off, everything settles down a few inches. Any
suggestions on how to keep the pond and creek from overflowing, and
still raise the waterlevel?

You didn't say if you pond has a liner. If so, there may be a small hole or
rip about 4" down.

Am I understanding correctly, that everything is where you want it to be,
up to the top, when the pump is running? If so,

Keep the pump running, or install a gate/weir so you can close it when the
pump is off so pond won't empty into creek. No way can you prevent water
from running downhill when the pump is off though. ;-) ~ jan

The level the pond drops down to is the point the settling point of
where the creek is when the water isn't running....

So lets just do this ( the dots here are the highest point of the pond
when the water runs)
The dashes are the point the pond settles to when the waterfall isn't
on.
The ** are the level of the creek when the waterfall runs
The __ are the point the creek settles to when the water doesn't run.
The ++ are the max depth of the pond

So I know this is cruddy image, but the pond holds water all the time

So the pond surface settles to the same level. In an earth bottom pond I
would consider that a normal happening. If it's a liner pond I would
seriously consider a leak somewhere. It's hard to actually picture your
set-up, but when water settles at some point in a lined pond you can be sure
there's a leak at that level.
