View Full Version : Weird white area on tetra's body
I've never seen pics of ich before but I looked on google & it looked more
speckled than solid, so I don't know if that's what I've got here or not.
My black neon tetra is like a solid white from about 2/3 of the way back to
almost the tail on both sides of his body. It's not a bright white but it is
solid. He looked normal yesterday. He seems to be acting normal, too.
Anyone? Is it ich or something else? What should I do?
Thanks,
Mary

Ich is like small grains of salt stuck to your fish. Might be only 1 or
2 on a tail, or they can be covered with it.
Your fish does not sound like it has Ich. There are a few diseases which
affect the muscles (which is what the back half of a fish is).
I put a bunch of links in here
http://www.2cah.com/netmax/Links/links.shtml#ich for Ich and others. For
an example of muscle deterioration in common tetras, look for NTD (Neon
tetra disease). The first symptom of these diseases is usually some
discolouration.

Thank you - now I know it wasn't ick since it was totally solid coloring.
He's gone now. I suppose I should try to find more for him. I checked with
the 4 LFS's around here & they just don't have any black neon tetras! I
thought they were very common, but I guess not.
Thanks for the help!
