First time I ever spawned betta's. I believe it is the first time
these two have as well. I get a 10 gallon aquariam set up. Have a cup
with some plastic wrap so he can make a bubble next. I get home from
work today, and both their tails are split in half... but they seem to
be getting along fine now.

I watch them for a few moments and WOW they start spawning. He wraps
around her, she drops eggs, and she doesn't look too phased about it
and then proceeds to eat all the eggs she just dropped. The male
doesn't even care that she dropped eggs and goes back to the nest.

Anything I'm doing wrong or should I split them up and try again in a
few weeks?

In case you want to see what I'm talking about here is a video:

I think he figured it out after a few goes at it. He picked up a
couple eggs and put them in his nest. The female ate a bunch more but
he managed to get some before she could eat them all. I seperated her
and put her in a bowl with bettazing so hopefully she doesn't get
infected or anything. Now lets hope the eggs hatch

WOW beautiful bettas.

>From one beginner to another:

I have found (5 weeks into my first successful brood...had 4 others
that did not survive, RIP my poor babies ) is that she will eat some
of the eggs, get full then start helping gather the eggs...I like using
a styrophon cup (sp?) for nest media.

They both just may not have a clue to what they are doing (had a couple
of spawns like that). My "Rover's" first spawn was like that. Blonde
did all the work while he watched (her 2nd spawn). Finally he got the
idea(He is an older VT from Walmart). He ended up eating all the eggs
(never hatched) after 4 days...the brood I am raising now is his 2nd
spawn...I have 10 babies.

I asked a simular question about spliting them during a spawn (mine was
to control the brood size though). I was told to leave them together
until the spawn was completely over, which I did. If the spawn is
complete, then yes remove her. Give Dad a few days to tend the eggs and
see what happens.

If they do not hatch, then you can try again in about 4 weeks.
