How soon after I start CO2 injection should I expect to see a visible
response by the plants (such as an Amazon sword)?

Couple of "if"'s - if you have the C02 level up at at least 20 ppm and if
you have both macro and micro nuturents and if you provide a minimum of 2
watts per gallon of light in the 5K and up range in a week or less you will
see growth noticable. Took me a bit longer because I had a difficult time
getting the C02 levels up. I have fish in my tank and was a bit concerned
about the effects, but at even 40 ppm at night I saw no changes (other than
plant growth and PH drop)...
Setup on 11/4/06, 90 gal, 81 degrees, Corallife 65 watt 4 light 6K range on
10 hours a day 2.8 w/gal, Pressurized C02 on PH Auto-Regulator 7.0, Rio
reactor, 11 degrees hardness, 120 ppm Alkalinity, Fluval 405 Canister...
Balansae, Wendtii "Red", Dwarf Subulata, Tall Subulata, Corkscrew Val,
Anubias Petite, Anubias Barteri, Hairgrass, Java Moss, Wisteria, Lobelia
small form...
3 - 4" upside down cats, 6 - 3" glass cats, 1 - rubber L-56 Pleco, 1 -
chocolate Pleco, 3 spotted cory, 3 - 4" Silver Dollars YIKES, 3 - Rummy Nose
Tetra, 8 - Long Fin Dainos...
Run 2 airstones at night don't cut off C02 and 8 LED light blue night light.
