Might anyone be able to diagnose the problem with my Blue Acara?

Research parasites, ie: velvet and related protozoans. You might need to
go a round of anti-fungal as well (secondary infection). I'm no expert,
but here are some links which might help you:

Im very upset now..
The Acara took a really bad turn last night and is no longer with us...
I rescued the fish from my sister who had had enough looking after it so
wasnt feeding it so it would die... When I went to see the fish I had to
look really hard as my eyes dont penetrate greeeeeen muck all that well...
So, I took over and tried my best, nice clean water (well, as clean as I
knew about, it's amazing how quick you can learn about a subject (aquaria)
when something you love gets sick!) feeding regularly...
I probably took a bit long to notice he had a real problem, so I raced out
spent $$ on some nice 'proper' filters, new light (not a normal flouro)
vacuums etc. but alas not quickly enough... Now I feel real bad I couldnt do
more for him...
Oh well now I'm reading everything and talking to anyone about resetting up
the tank. Hopefully I will do much better this time...
Thanks, Bill

The mortality rate imo, is very high on rescues. For example, just
moving a fish from very high NO3 unmaintained environment and placing
them in perfect quality water will cause a nitrate shock, and then the
weakened fish is attacked by whatever is in the water (bacteria,
parasites etc). People bring me fish which would have otherwise been
flushed (very bad), and the odds of their successfully integrating are
not better than 3 out 4, and that's with a trained staff, lots of
supervision, tanks and medications on hand. I also have a lot of
normally benign bugs floating around which don't help, but for a home
rescue, your odds might not be any better than 3 out of 4. I've become
more used to it, but I still always feel bad when it happens.
