Today I purchased a Powder Blue Tang from my LFS. While there I talked to
the owner of the store as to what the new fish likes to eat. I was basically
told to feed him Nori and or other type veggie. He said that although he
will eat Brine or Mysis, he will thive on algae / seedweed.
The LFS owner also said that the Powder Blue likes Macro Algae and he showed
me something called Macro Feast, he suggested I put it in my refugium.
Seeing how I dont have one I asked if I could just pace it in the main tank.
This is when he became a politician and was unabel to give me a straight
answer. What I need to know is, what should I do with the algae I purchased
i e do I burry it , clip it to something; what do I do with it.
Thanks

Just find a quite corner to drop it in. They tang may or may not eat
it. My fish nipped at it and then gave up. I now setup a fug, so I
moved what was left into it.

Is it live Gracilaria pacifica ? (red, curly and stringy)
Drop it in the tank. I wouldn't worry too much about
it spreading or growing. The conditions in a reef tank are not optimal for
growing this stuff.
I have some in my fuge, it great for nutrient export. Nitrates are at an
all time low
since adding it. And to my surprise it's still alive and kicking 1 month
later, but not growing out of control.
I believe optimal conditions for the algae are a lower salinity, lower temp
and nutrient rich water.
Not something you would have with a typical reef setup.
