I'm here only several months and don't know well about the fish markets
here. Can some guys recommend some good fish shop?

and my aquarium is full of snails now and I'm wonder if I should buy some
puffers to eat them, but I cann't find a shop to buy them.

thanks!

Hate to tell you but I can't see you so I have no clue where your at.
Fishmarkets are where you buy fish to eat, pet shops or LFS are
where you buy fish for pets...! So I suggest you set down and compose
yourself and make a post folks can actually understand.

Check for Skunk botia or YoYo loaches. I
have both (separate tanks) and they do a good
job of keeping snails in check. Puffers can
be aggressive and some can get very large.
I bought what I thought were two "dwarf"
puffers, that turned out to be Green Spotted
Puffers and soon outgrew the original tank.
Many pet shops can't tell the difference
between different types of puffers when
young, but Skunk botia and YoYo loaches
are hard to misidentify.

Skunk botia remain relatively small - 2" and
very thin. They tend to hide so I make sure
to provide cave-like decorations for them.
My YoYo loaches love hiding in PVC pipe.
They can get to 4" but are non-aggressive.
I have otos and cory cats in the same tanks as
the skunk botia and YoYo loaches and there
is no fighting.

Welcome to the group.
However, you didn't mention where you are located, or even what part
of the world.
So in order to help further, you'll need to say where you are located.
Also, list what size tank you have, how long it's been up and running,
what fish you have in it, and how many of each.
Is it heated, filtered, and what's your water change schedule like. Do
you have hard, soft, alkaline, acidic or neutral water will help as
well.

Look for privately owned stores. They're always my first choice. Second
choice are the large chains such as Pet Supermarket or PetsMart.

When I added a few clown loaches to a snail infested 55g tank the snails
were soon history

Thanks a lot.
yep, It's what I worry about that puffers can be aggressive since I have a
lot of young mollies ...
As what you said, I think Skunk botia or YoYo loaches maybe better choice.

I'm sorry I forgot it. I'm UVa, Charlottesville now. It's the news group of
UVa, isn't it?

And I have a 10 gallon tank with filter, light, and heated also. It's been
up and running for several monthes with 4 grown mollies and more than 15
young mollies.

and i plan to buy another tank.

thanks.

No, Its Carol Gulleys aka Zebulons own personal usenet group run out
of a trailer park in Mt. Juliet, TN. Carol Gulley.......the purveyor
of erroneous info in regards to Fish and ponds and do it your self
health care and her infamous posts on how to keep a husband!

Hey Don

Please feel free to do what you feel must be done. I defend my right
to point out to folks how wrong CArols info is, and as long as she and
Ed Alston continue to trash the reef group I will continue to ride
herd on the idiot........Kill file away, if yu want. I am not in this
group or any other for celebrity status or for attention....I just
hate it that CArol Gulley and Ed Alston decided to hang their hat
here....and trash the group. Look around Don, and ask who really is
the trouble maker, not me....For every post I make to or not directed
to Carol at least half a dozen other posts show up in regards to me
all from CArol Gulley........look at the reef group, that CArol and Ed
decided to trash when they found out that I and another person that
frequents this and other aquaria forums also posted there. There is
perhaps 10 regular users in the reef forum, yet look at all the
Bellsouth and Teranews and Big Gulp and Greatnowhere posts that area
all known and verified user id's of CArol and Eds that have trashed it
as well as other aquaria groups......Also ask yurself why and where
all the other old timers went. Carol can not resist mixing it up and
getting attention and its easy to see with her constant hassles she
envolkes with most all folks that still try to make something out of
these trashed groups.

Sorry Don, I will be here riding herd on CArol as best I can exposing
her for what its worth as long as she is alive and breathing and
posting on usenet.........May as well make a kill filter and use it.

Gail is quite right here.....yes there are some puffers that remain
small and can survive in freshwater....however the majority are brackish
at best and really do better in sal****er.....If you do want a puffer
then you really have to go out there and get your google finger working
and check that you are buying the right one and then some....you need to
make sure what you are being sold labelled as the one you want is indeed
the correct one.....

Most members of the botia family will eat snails....some are
better/quicker at it than others.....

When it comes to your choice of loaches you have a couple of things to
consider....firstly the size of your tank, which you haven't mentioned
yet.....Clown Loaches although way the best at demolishing snails do not
always do well in a small tank and have the potential to grow
big....(I'm talking 12" eventual size) - Yoyos can grow up to 4" in size
quite quickly - I know so because I have a number of them - along with
Clowns......and no botia loach is happy kept on its own...they are
social creatures and keeping any less than three and peferably more is
cruel....they need their own kind.....

If your tank is small then you can look at alternative methods of
controlling your snail population....one way to do it is to drop a bit
of lettuce, cucumber or courgette (zucchini) into the tank at lights out
and then pick it out in the morning - it will be covered in
snails....keep doing this until your population is under control....
