View Full Version : Coppersafe and plants
I have some mardel coppersafe. On the back it says it may be harmful to
plants. Anyone know if it is and which plants? The only other tank i can
put my plants in is full of snails. W.

Coppersafe isn't exactly safe for your fish either.
I wouldn't ever use it in any of my tanks.
What are you wanting to use it for?

fwiw, I've started using CopperSafe. I avoid Snail-away or any of those.
The CopperSafe looks to be a bit better formulated. They say it is very
stable and soluble, so water changes will clear it out. They also say
that it holds the copper level at 1.5 to 2.0ppm if their dosage is
followed (the others don't mention concentrations). I've used it in
planted tanks (which even had shrimp and snails) with no nasty results,
but it wasn't in there too long (a few days typically), and the plants
were not fragile, Sunset Hygro, and the shrimps were big, Amanos. I
don't know if medicinally I can yet recommend it but for side-effects, it
has seemed ok so far. I've found that I can destroy plants faster with
antibiotics and antifungals, and they don't warn you about that.
