Bala Shark Appetites

[HANÑÎBAL]

I've had a Bala for a short while now and He's capable of taking shrimp
pellets 'whole'. I fear he could expire from digestive issues. Is this
the norm for these minnows?

Hi

Well I've not ever kept Balas so can only give you a very generalised
answer after asking you if there is any specific reason why you think he
might have digestive issues? If so, go ahead and detail them....

When it comes to diet, feeding a variety of foodstuffs goes a long way
to promoting the health of your fish. IIRC you have platys, tiger barbs
and cories in the tank as well - they would also benefit from a varied
diet. I would feed a mix of flake, pellets (for the bottom feeders),
frozen bloodworm/brine shrimp and the occassional shelled pea to give
some roughage....not all at the same time though - ;-)

I'm just concerned with the nature (feeding manner) that the bala just
consumes the pellets, iwth no apparent chewing of them. The minnow's
health appears to be excellent, as its growth can be witnessed almost
daily. He resides in a home-built 68 gallon tank, and I'm aware that
his length should reach at least 8 inches, as I have seen with others.
His diet consists of the following you've listed below...Thank you for

Well, I guess you should maybe come and witness feeding time in my Mbuna
tank.....whole Spirulina sticks gone in a gulp - guess it is the size of
the fish....but I've not really got that my Neons are dainty feeders
either....

Well, I'm happy he is doing well......I always try and follow the
premise if it isn't broken don't try and fix it....

Now that is a nice state to be in.....IMO the more that can be forgotten
about the bad side and the more remembered about the good the better :-)
