View Full Version : Angels for now gets a thumbs down!

Went to all the ocal lfs here today and to be honest, I did not find
one single angel fish I would spend my money on. PITYFULL......no rush
for them anyhow. Same for any o f the other fish as well. WEe left
with a list of fish etc to get, and did not get one single
fish......like I said earlier PITYFULL
But I did wind up with a bunch of submerged type pond plants, that
ought to be a big hit with the tropicals later this year once the
water warms up a bit......

I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know!

Shame....but quite a common experience. The number of times I've been to
my LFS set on getting specific fish, inverts and in fact plants, to find
that they don't have quite what I am looking for.....I try to be
philosophical about it - afterall patience is one of the key things with
fishkeeping - even if it is frustrating when it is forced on us by not
being able to purchase what we want.
Don't give up on the angels - I'm pretty sure one day you will walk into
an LFS and find exactly what you are looking for - usually happens to me....

Thing is, yu go in an LFS see al those sick and inflicted and pityfull
looking fish, whose days re numbered, and pass.......on a purchase. A
week or two later, all those sick fish have gone to that big aquarium
in the sky, things appear much better because the lfs attendants just
got done scooping out all the dead and dying bodies, but the crap is
still in that system and odds are nits never gonna leave....I know its
all about ease of day to day maintenance ontheir tanks and such, but
the customer pays in the end most of the time due to it and a sick
overall system.
our local Deathco got in some neat fish though, they have fuzzy fish,
headstanders, upside down floaters, finless tetras, and all kinds of
other unique fish
Got to hand it to placews like Deathco for their contributions to the
aquatic industry and creating new species.

Hello Tristan.
It's all too common these days to see diseases Angelfish in shops.
Did you ask if they were from a local breeder or imported?
If you didn't...give them a jingle and ask. If the person says I don't
know...We get them from the whole saler.....they're imports that
stopped off at the Florida farms. Pass on them for sure and from
buying any fish at the store if you want to keep healthy angels. It's
just safer that way in case they had the virus.
I know Mr. Gardener from The Freshwater Aquarium group thinks I'm too
paranoid about it, but trust me....I've been specialzing in Angelfish
(as well as Bettas of course) for close to 30 yrs and the Angelfish
virus is as bad of an epidemic to Angelfish as human AIDs is to
humans.

This is true. Only small, immature specimens can be found (babies really)
and this has been the case for years. Live Aquaria.com sometimes has good
specimens....sometimes.

Alpha,
I found 2 local shops that carry Angels from local breeders.
One...tiny babies. He has 3 old pairs that just keep spawning and
doesn't have the room to grow them out. This is why the store takes on
such ity bitties. Some about the body size of a lady's pinky nail.
The other, is a local Petland which I don't really care for. However,
they have a new owner who found a good breeder. He's got quarter body
size all the way up to salad plate breeders. This is where I got my
Gold pearlscale / marble cross male. I don't like the fact that
PetLand sells pups and kittens. So that's why I don't really care for
that store. It's rare that I buy from them, but when there isn't much
of a choise out there, if ya want a healthy Angel they have you buy
the short ones. = /

In my area, middle TN, the best angels are found in mom and pop aquarium/pet
stores. They buy from local breeders. I can also usually find locally
raised guppies and other commonly raised tropical fish.

So why does carol have to provide a point about her posts when you
and the others seem to post at will and could care less on what points
you all make either? Its plaian to see Tynk, you have a hard on for
CArol since she does appear to have a bigger followoing of posters and
does have knowledge of fish and ponds unlike youo and your fellkow
hpocrites like Jan and Gill who are only concerned about themselves
and use folks like they are expendable just as long as they get what
they are after.

Roy,
Once again you are digging up old posts and trying to start an
argument about something out of nothing.
Got tired of goig after the others so now it's my turn. If this is how
you want to waste your time, oh well.
SInce I've never done anything to you my self, you feel the need to
take something between 2 other people and try and run with it.
It was old and boring the first time around.

Your spinning your wheels Tynk......Certainly you do not think I am
going to pay you or any of those other hate mongers or self
proclaimed know-it-alls, any attention are you? Your attenntio would
be better spent replying to bona fide posts..........but your help in
keeping the trash flowing in Ron Schomperts name is appreciated.
Afterall I told him and his cronies each and every time they post
their crap and trol in the rec.ponds group they can expect a mimnimum
of 10X the repost in other gorups for their
bull****..............certaibnly you do not think I am gonna post in
rec.ponds and trash my favorite group do you? Appologize to Carol for
giving her such a hard time. She is afterall entitled to her own
methods and ways and thoughts, like it or not! Appologize and maybe,
just maybe I will stop post8ing in the rec.aquaria.freshwater .misc
group. Afterall you have yet to see a post of mine attacking carol
since we both came to terms, and there ha not been any posts in the
reef group since Wayne and Peszemol sent me an appology since they
seen what and who Gill really was...........so therefore I am a
reasonable individual........other than that, I consider this group my
home base for future posts.....until I see an appology to
carol........

Roy,
You say here you're not going to give me any attention, yet you have
brought up many posts with me either in the subject line (some you
just now changed to include *my* name), so how is this not giving me
any attention?
Now, as for an apology to Carol....for what? Of course she's entitled
to her own methods and opinions.
That was never the issue with her. She thought it was by mistake. She
was even told so countless times, as you already know (since you've
made many replies backing up what I was telling carol at the time).
The problems between us are about *facts*. not opinions. She used her
*Opinions* AS facts. That was my problem with her.
When this "opinion used as fact" was told, I corrected it. That would
send Carol into a tirade about how not everyone does things the same,
etc.
I will not apologize for her not knowing the difference between a fact
and an opinion, not listening when I explained it countless times, and
her spamming up the group with posts about YOU!
You want me to apologize to her for giving her such a hard time?
Yeah, that'll happen. I don't apologize for other people's mistakes.
If they can't handle being corrected, that's not my problem. Carol
made it a problem for years.
She twisted words or added her own to make an argument and went on and
on.
You want me to apologize for that? You must be on some good drugs man.
It's great that you and Carol are now the best of buds.
Good for you.
Now instead of making more digs at me for no real reason (remember,
I've never done anything to you my dear) we try and actually talk
about fish in this tropical fish group.
I mean, that is the goal isn't it?

I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know!

So you don't want this group to start being about tropical, freshwater
fish again?
Why not?
It would be nice for a change to actually discuss fish and not be
constantly off topic.

Because until Ron and his cohorts stop trolling in the rec.ponds group
I have to have aplace to post from and this is where I decided to
call home. Once Ron and his **** buddies stop posting and trying to
sway folks away from rec.,;onds perhaps then I stop OT posts here.
Its Rons ballgame now! Toop bad other groups have to suffer at the
whim of an asshole control freak like Ron and his moderators whose
**** does not stink! Hey your smart enough to know a wolf don't ****
in his own den! Other thanRon and his trolls rp would be a perfectly
quiet suitable place to utilize........oh well blame it on Ron, I
don;t wanna hear about it!
