Howdy,
I have a few litters of red ramshorns that I would like to raise until they
are big enough to trade back to my local pet store.
Originally, I threw all my extra ceropteris (water sprite) into their bucket
with an over-the-side filter. This was not good. While the ceropteris was
clearly being eaten away, they seemed to not get proper nutrition. I had
about 40% mortality over about 2 months and the rest had poor shell growth.
Since then, I have been supplementing them with goldfish food, whole wheat
bread crust, cooked rice, apple cores, all of which they gobble up. They
seem much more active and well-shelled since then.
My question-
Snails can manage on all kinds of 'food', but I would like to know what will
make them the healthiest and quickest to get them out of my house.
Any science types who can give me x% of protein, calcium etc?
Also good - suggestions on what (cheap) human food will do the job instead
of paying more than they're worth in pet store food.
OH - how about that Wal Mart brand 'Ol Roy dog food? thats the cheapest per
pound "food" I have ever seen.
