I tested for silicates last night and nothing, nada, zip. I'm starting
to wonder if it's just coraline algae trying to grow on the glass. I
really have to work to get some of it off.

Yea, diatoms rub off easily. If it does not easily
rub off with a finger, it's not diatoms.

Coralline algae on the glass, you need a razor blade to get it off. I have
purple and green on mine. I like it but when it's on the front glass, it can
be a pain. I find myself using a blade on the front glass once every other
month or so. I leave it on the sides and the back
