I have finally convinced my family to let me get a tank for the
kitchen counter top. It will probably be 3 gallons. I am used to
caring for larger aquariums, (my smallest is 20g.) The first problem
is the tank's placement. There would be a microwave on the same counter
top, would I have to move the microwave or wold a foot between the
microwave and tank be enough? And second, what could i put in the
tank? I was thinking along the lines of a betta and acople glass
shrimp, would this work? Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks for looking,
Evan Davis

Whatever fish, shrimp, plants, etc... you put into the tank will be unaffected
by the microwave next to it. If there was going to be a problem with the
microwave it would be with the tank's filter, heater, air pump, or light. While
the microwave is operating it will (not sure of exact phrase) release garbage
radio frequencies that could interfere with unshielded electrical appliances.
It may not be limited to the microwave either. I once owned a blender that
would interfere with my television's reception.

You probably won't know for sure until you do it. Its just as likely that no
problems will occur as having a problem occur. In any case, the interference
from the mirowave would be temporary and would only cause a temporary, eratic
operation of the fitler/heater/air-pump/light.
