Someone in one of these fishy newsgroups was looking to get rid of some MTS
a little while back. I'm interested, but can't find the post anymore.

NYC area. Never tried to ship live animals before, is it terribly
complicated?

Trumpet snails are cool.... all the good things that you stated about
them are true.... they leave plants alone.... eat dead matter, stir up
the gravel, etc. I would seriously question the mental status of
whoever claimed that they eat aquarium sealant. They probably just
put them in a used tank that they purchased at a yard sale and the
tank leaked, or maybe they used spirilina-flavored sealant on their
tanks >:-)~.... who knows why they made this assumption. I've been
keeping them for well over a decade and have not once encountered that
sort of problem.

I've never done it! I'd be more concerned
about them cooking in the heat. I got some
accidentally from plants purchased from LFS.
Maybe you could call around and ask if any
LFS have spares they can give away or sell?
I'd think the NYC area would have a
gadzillion LFS.

I'd probably have a different answer if you and
I lived closer (anything to get rid of some MTS
humanely). :)

I asked my LFS for the trumpet snails when I bought a fish; thet were
delighted to give them away!

I've asked and asked and asked. There are 7 stores that are within an
hour's drive of where I live. NO ONE has them, and NO ONE will order them.
*pouts* They're so nifty...all I've got are these unidentified snails that
aren't pretty and serve no purpose other than munching my plants. :-( I
guess I'll have to order them from some online place.

Here's another idea: What about tropical fish
hobby groups? Local ones, I mean.

Or keep asking in the relevant newsgroup until
you connect up with someone who lives
closer and can get some to you in a timely
(but not too expensive) manner.

Good luck-

I'd be glad to get rid of all mine if I could.

I'm not sure they are Malaysian TS, they are TS, and they have a
ridiculously hard shell. I have lost a few filter impellers to them

Mine are out and about in the daytime as well, whatever that means.

somebody needs to be a wet blanket. <:-)

I used some tupperware container, or gatorade bottle. filled halfway with
water, smallest box I could get, and it's off... seems to work pretty
well.... so far...
