Hopefully someone can answer a question. I just purchased a Jr
Aquatics small squarium heater 4 inch 7.5 watt. Can someone tell me
what temp it should keep a 2.5g tank? Also, how can i be sure it is
working? i have had th heater on for a while but it does not feel
warm.

thanks..

Strange that their website doesn't even mention the preset temp --
just a warning to use a thermometer and unplug it if the temp exceeds
82 F.

A 7.5 W heater may not heat up enough to feel warm to the touch,
especially if it is in room temperature water. You might try it in a
bucket of cold water -- let it cool, put in bucket of cool water, say
65F, let it adjust for 10-15 minutes, then turn it on.

I would email the manufacturer and ask them what the preset temp is,
here's their email addy:

Your room temperature is very important. I keep my room temperature
at 77 degrees and the tanks at 78 - 80. It is more energy efficient.
Why use air conditioning to lower the room to 74 and have the tank
heaters on to get the tanks back up? In the winter I let the tank
heaters do more work since I don't like to heat the room so high in
the winter.

The manufacturer usually supplies a chart giving tank size and room
differential that the heater can handle. If your room temperature is
close to the desired tank temperature then the heater may be fine. If
your room temperature is much cooler or if the room temperature varies
widely you may have a problem. Monitor the tank temperature closely
and watch your room temperature. I keep an electronic
"inside/outside" themometer in each of my 5 tanks and set the alarm to
82 degrees. I have had heaters that go bad and stay on. At such a
time a smaller heater is good since it can't cook the fish. Usually I
like a larger heater than reccommended thus I have the temperature
monitors. I have electrical outages and want the tanks to recover
quickly after an outage.

is there a web site for the company that makes this 7.5W heater? I'm
still not convinced it is doing anything.. Im using a 2.5G tank.. my
room temp is about 68 degrees and it seems the water is 70 degrees but
it looks as though maybe its going down? hmm

Thanks..

I tried a couple of them. They're junk. Neither of them worked at
all. I hope you kept your receipt.

I checked with Google for "Jr Aquatics" and found an eBay auction.
You could email the seller and see what information they have. I keep
my fish around 78 degrees, so I would be very unhappy at 70.

http://promo.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?GetCrossPromos&strsellerid=ebaeseller&seller=27675836&item=4314256168&storecat=3&category=&listedsite=&method=1&view=1&shipdiscount=0&track=MERC_VI&random=840

now that is some address or not?

Nothing there about what it is preset for, just a copy of the
instruction sheet. May try emailing them directly at
