Bleach dip.
Just be sure to rinse really well- even soak in doubly dechlorinated water
afterwards.

sorry for my poor english, i need a few clarifications -

bleaching means - leaving in water with chlorine for a while ?

if so - how much chlorine ? and for how long ? wouldnt the plastic
plants color fade ? and what about silk plants ?

thanks in advance

Get some algae eaters. If they are broad leaf plants the fish will eat the
algae.

Depending on the strength of the bleach and how much algae you have, the
amount of time may vary. 1/2 cup of bleach to 4-5 gal of water is plenty.
Find an old toothbrush (or better yet, buy a cheap one new) and use it to
scrub the decorations after a minute or two of soaking. Yes, it can fade
the colors of your plastic plants and I don't know what it would do to the
silk ones.

I got tired of cleaning my decorations, so I switched to live plants. Huge
improvement in fish and tank health. Just added a few plant friendly algae
eating fish and my tanks look great!

I soak them in water with salt (sometimes soap, detergent, warm
water)...sometimes, air or sun-drying afterwards.

One time I used chlorine (for swimming pool use, and an active
ingredient in bleach), really cleaned the plastic, rocks and even
white coral to brand new look.... but, despite (many) rinsing, soaking
afterwards, some residue did stick to the plastic ...and killed many
of my fish...never again...

The best way, with minimal scrubbing is to take those slow-growing plastic
plants out of the tank, take them outdoors, set them on the dry
ground/deck/patio/porch/driveway/rooftop (anywhere 70F+ in direct sunlight)
and let the direct sunlight beat down on them for 4-6+ hours and dry them
out and thus kill the algaes. Then return those slow-growing plastic plants
to your aquarium, and allow the fish to pick at the dead and tasty algae
treats for a day or two.

I have one large ornament that is brilliant when clean, but dulls over
a few months from algae. I have 2 siamese algae eaters that do a fair
job, but to get the ornament back to its brilliance I clean it with
household bleach and a toothbrush. I also have to clean the glass
with a scrapper once in awhile.
