View Full Version : Shy Oscars

I just purchased a pair of young red oscars. I set up a 10 gallon tank only for
them. They are apparently frightened and are immobile at the bottom of the
tank. They refuse to eat. This has happened in the past with oscars. How can I
get them to become active?

Maybe the 10 gallon aquarium is just temporary?

a friend of mine discovered that oscars may get shy from eating too much
meal-worms. not overeating, but feeding them for a large period of time.

maybe check the temperature is right?
also I found on my wooden floors they don't like the vibrations
I cause when walking around the tank when they were juveniles.
Also it could just be the sudden change in the enviroment,
or they could be bloated.

hope this might help

cheers

Throw in a load of Tadpoles, then you'll see how inactive they are.. I
really think that if your serious about keeping Oscars, you should get a
bigger tank, and a first class external
power filter. Then your only worry will be, Do they like each other..

Hey there -- Read this web page about Oscars in the gravel:

http://www.geocities.com/cichlidiot_2000/liedown.html

Oscars find dozens of excuses to sulk at the bottom, but it's
absolutely normal behaviour.

We trust the you are saving up for a large aquarium! Those two lil'
Oscars are going to outgrow that 10g really, really quickly!

1: 10 gallon too small for one let alone two (they grow real fast)
2: they dont like too much light. actually they dont like cheap
petstore light, the sink to the bottom corner to escape. its better to
get a tall tank< prefferably long and tall, i started with a 37 tall
they did real well there with a 24" full spectrum daylight flourecent,,
water slightly acidic.
