red devils get too big for a 20 gallon. also the only option you have is to
sacrifice your community fish until u can get another tank or try a divider
in the tank you have your oscar in. btw, what size is the tank your oscar
is in?

I had a baby Red Devil in a 10g about a year and a half ago with some pink and
3 spot gouramis, a young tinfoil barb, a black mollie, he really did not bother
them at all if anything he was scared of them, i'll bet if you try and put him
in with them he will hide from them for a few days to about
2 weeks at most and then he should fit in. If not you could always transfer
him back to where he is now.

Red Devils like to have shelter you could put some mini clay pots in the tank
and he should eventually stake a claim inside, other fish like to swim through
or hide in them too, just knock out the bottom of the pot with a hammer and get
the standard clay pots _not painted or treated in any way.

When he starts to get bigger and more aggressive you will notice his behavior,
then it will be time to transfer him to a larger tank, I have mine now in a 55g
and he rules the tank over a pair of convicts and an algae eater. If you have
room the larger the tank the better for a RD.

What other fish are in the 10g community tank ?

A one cm red devil is in a very high feeding mode so it can put on size. As
a rule, the fastest growth rate for a fish is the first 6 weeks of life. As
long as it is regularly fed with quality foods, it should be okay for a
while. That implies that your other community fish are at least bigger than
this juvenile red devil.
It will be more than ready for a 20 gallon tank in about three months, then
you can consider a bigger tank, as a 20 is still much too small. Hope you
have the room for big aquariums. ;-)
