hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a smallish colourful Lake
Victoria cichlid, and what African cichlids would go well with said fish.
I have been into regular cichlids for quite a while and I would like
something more colourful.
thanks
Shawn

There are quite a few victorians that are about the same size and
temperament as many mbuna. Unfortunately they like to be kept at the same 1
male to 3 female ratio as the mbuna ..... and the females victorians are
usually not very colorful.
The Paralabidochromis rock kribensis are reasonably common and the females
are a nice yellow with black stripes while the males are very similar except
that they have quite a bit of red. A chain store in Ohio (Jacks Aquarium)
carries them quite often and they are less than $6.00 each. You can see
mine on my web site:

is NOT common but if you scroll down you can see the yellow variety)
