I have seen electric yellow labs being sold with egg spots on the bottom fin
and without. I would like to know, which are the "real" thing?

I just had to check my tank full, and the females do not
have any egg spots, and the males all have a solid black
bar across the bottom of the fin - NO egg spots either.
Those ain't Labidochromis caeruleus "Electric Yellow's"!

None of mine have egg spots either...prolly a sign of either a hybrid (maybe
with a peacock, or something else...)

Labidochromis and Aulonacara ('peacocks') are not known to
hybridize.

I have heard this about Labids from other aquarists and have never seen a
Labid cross breed. But, I have witnessed, first hand Peacocks cross breeding.
Perhaps it may be due to the male being an OB peacock which is already a hybrid.
But the females were Ruby Red's and there was a Ruby Red male present.

I think bob meant the labid's and peacocks won't crossbreed w/ each other.
peacocks cross breed among themselves and other haps quite readily.

Ive heard of peacocks crossing with pretty much anything...from zebras, down
to rusties....seems those peacock males get around.
