Oscars and Malawis sound like a bad mix.. Different water conditions
preferred. Also, Malawis, assuming you are talking about mbunas like
Pseudotropheus, Melanochromis, etc are much more aggressive than oscars
usually are. I would give the oscar its own tank.

More aggressive than Oscars? Most of them would end up as Oscar food. Water
differences and own tank suggestions are correct though.

Possible, but I was assuming he wouldn't put an adult oscar in with very
small Malawis. Oscars often tolerate and do not eat smaller fish if they
are raised with them-assuming similar size when introduced. Also, most
common Malawis get pretty big in our aquariums, 5"-7" mbunbas are pretty
common-too big for oscar chow I think. Most of the common Malawis I have
kept, except maybe some peacocks and less aggressive "Haps" would do in a
similar sized oscar long before the oscar was big enough to eat them. YMMV

I think my 3" long afras could kill a full grown oscar without much trouble.
Fish dont think of eating something thats attacking them.
