View Full Version : Weird SAE Yoyo Loach behaviour

I just added 3 Yoyo Loaches to my small tropical tank and they've been
hanging out with the SAEs ever since. You'd think they were long lost
buddies. They pretty much ignore each other in the larger tropical tank. The
Loaches rarely venture out of their Loach Motel (Chinese Pagoda) in the
large tank.

Where are the SAE's? In the same Pagoda?

No Pagoda in the tank in question, the Pagoda is in the tank where they tend
to ignore each other.
I noticed last night when I fed the SAEs their Veggie Flakes that they
weren't so keen on the Loaches hanging around.

Why do you think they hide in the larger tank? Maybe they need more plants
or rockpiles for security?

I think it's the lack of human contact. The ones in my office see me all the
time, but the ones in the basement only see each other. But I really don't
know why.

I can't help but wonder what you call "small?"
I have 6 SAEs in a 29 gallon and 9 in a 75. All have grown to 5 to 6
inches. Often I see one swim to0 far too banging against the glass.
Both tanks also have Clown Loaches. They hang out with the SAEs in
the 75, but seldom together in the 29. At feeding time the mixed fish
often school from one side to the other before bunching together where
the flakes will float.
I have a cave ornament in the 29 which the Clowns usually occupy. No
ornaments in the 75, just a bottom full of plants. The Clowns spend
much of the day hiding under the plants, while the SAEs rest on the
plant tops.

I'm afraid tha tthe Yoyos are eating the slime from the sides or gills of
the SAEs. Not good for SAEs.
