View Full Version : injury or disease to my bolivian ram?

I just got home from work to find my 1/2 - 3/4 inch bolivian ram has what
looks like an injury to it's right eye. The eye looks like it has been
attacked, there seems to have been pulled out of it's socket somewhat so
that the eye looks like is facing 45 degrees towards the ground instead of
straight out. There is redness around the eye socket and there is some mucus
covering the top half of the eye. to me this seems like it has been attacked
as it is the smallest fish in the tank, along with a male ram, two juvenile
male paradise fish and two spawning kribs. it was the last fish added, so I
guess I have made a big mistake, he is often chased, but only for half a
second at a time. do you think my diagnosis is right? and what can I do for
this fish? I have another tank but I have no filtration or heater set up for
it. any help appreciated guys, I feel really bad for putting her in the
tank.

Good luck with whatever it is, but it sounds like it's Dropsy, PopEye,
typical with most Rams, not sure why, but every one I've EVER had developed
that.... then died... sorry....

I've tried Jungle Fungus Eliminator, Clout, Maracyn and 2, nothing
worked....

can these diseases pop up overnight? and is it contagious?

well... they kinda come about slowly, usually you'll see the water getting
somewhat cloudy, and maybe you'll think it's an algae or bacteria bloom, or
you'll forget to change the filter cartridge one week, and then the next
week, or something like that, that I did, and when that happened, is when I
noticed a swollen eye, or a patch of cloudy mucous around the eye... by then
it was too late for either sets of rams I had... had two sets, both males
got it, females followed....
