How many teeth do cichlids have? More accurately, besides counting the
number of holes in my finger, how many teeth does a Midas, fullgrown, have?
I didn't get bit, but he tried, very aggresively tried to take my finger
off....

Was wondering if there are any known numbers... Some of my mbuna had smaller
single row teeth, others I've heard have two rows, and sharks, well, that's
another story....

Number, shape and size of teeth differ from cichlid to cichlid. In many cases
it's what's used to decide what genus a cichlid is classified in. Most American
cichlids tend towards conical teeth. In the definition of family Cichlidae, the
only real defining thing about the teeth is that there are none in the upper
roof portion of the mouth. "no teeth on vomer or palatines;"

Thanks AC, this midas, I know has teeth on the bottom, the top like you say,
not sure, but I have seen a flap that extends down from the top about 1/4
inch and it goes up and down as Gorby breathes... I am not sure if it's a
flexible or a rigid flap as I'm not putting MY finger in there to find
out...

Also, was debating whether to use a veggie to let him grasp upon to see how
many teeth he's got... just a thought....

THanks.
