I'm not moving until early next year, but thought I may as well plan ahead.
I have a 55 gallon Malawi tank, with an assortment of peacocks and Malawi
Chrysonatus. How do I move these guys? I have a 20L at my disposal if that
helps.

Are you moving across the hall, street, town, State, country? How
long is the estimated transit time?

Maybe about 5 miles away.

When you're ready to move the tank put the fish in a clean bucket,
cooler, or whatever with some tank water. They'll be fine for a few
hours if you can keep an airstone in with them. They won't need an
airstone for a 5-mile trip. If you don't feed them for a day or two
before you do this there will be less waste to contaminate the water.
Remove EVERYTHING from the tank, especially the water and substrate.
If you try to move the tank with any weight in it you run the risk of
breaking the seals. You could keep some of the tank water to keep
your filter media and substrate in. This will help the nitrifying
bacteria to survive and cycle the new water. Dechlorinate the water
before you replace the substrate and filter in tank. You may
encounter "New Tank Syndrome" for a short time so feed lightly and
stay on top of water changes and testing for ammonia/nitrites.
