View Full Version : Angel Fish Problem
MinnesotaHuck

I have a 29 Gal freshwater aquarium and my fish do great. I had three angels. One day one of my angel fish just quit eating and kind of just sat there and didn't really swim around. The other two were still doing great. A few days later I found him at the bottom of the tank dead. I just figured he went on a hunger strike and starved to death. Stubborn. About a week later another one of my angels started doing the same thing. They ignore stuff and aren't even hungry. When I tried to net him he is still quick and active but as soon as I quit he's back to his weird state. All he does is float and open and close his mouth rather quickly. Whats the deal?

We'd have to know more to help. How old are these fish. What is the PH and
Hardness of your water? Have you been doing partial water changes? How
about a varied diet? Are they getting chilled now that winter is here?

Here are some parameters to check and what is recommended:
*Ammonia/nitrites- 0
*Nitrates- under 50 ppm
*pH- stable (stability is more important than chasing numbers here)
*KH- 50 ppm + (this is important for pH stability)
*GH- 100 ppm+ (this is important for osmoregulation which can manifest
itself in swim bladder problems that cause floating)
Carl
As already asked, please add your cleaning and feeding schedule too.

groups honorary chick with a dick even though its man made it looks
real and most guys do not complain................but just so we
understand whats what here, I own these groups, I am the dick toting
bitch named TYNK, and I do not cater to trolls or spammers in my
aquria groups...........if you can abide by that we will get along
just fine................and BTW yet again, if you can get 6 posts in
a row without my needing to get involved, it will earn you 10 fishy
points towards a knob polishing which is a $20 value or 100 fishy

I don't know what the hardness of the water is. What do you recommend for angels? The angels are only a couple of months old. I got them about a month ago and they were roughly the size of a quarter. They about doubled in size, and thats not including the fins, the body size. I feed two types of food. Regular flake flood and pellets. They usually would eat both types. The PH in the water is very low. Usually at 0 if not close. All my other fish are doing great.

I feed them twice a day. Three pellets and a pinch of flake. It usually takes about two to three minutes for all the food to be gone. The pellets take a little longer due to needing to soften. I do about a 20% water change every two weeks.

My angels always did best in slightly acid soft water.

They will do much better if you add some "meaty" foods such as thawed brine
shrimp and blood worms.
They

How can the PH be zero??? Do you mean Ammonia and/or Nitrites? If you're
getting a PH of zero, you need another kit. My angels did best at a PH
around 6.8.
