Hi Folks,

Can you help me ID this fish
(http://www3.sympatico.ca/alrostom/electric_blue/electric_blue.htm) I bought
it as a juevenile over a year ago. It was labeled at one of the Chain LFS as
"electric Blue Peacock". It already had a electric blue face and dorsal
fin - rest was brown with veritcal stripes. I thought it was an "electric
Blue Ahli". But now looking at the picture it looks more like an Aulonocara
sp . The picture doesn't do it justice it is fairly big - almost 6 inches
and face dorsal and ventral fins are really "electric blue" there is yellow
behind head, and slight hint of blue in the rest of body but mostly it is a
yellow brown with vericle strips.

Any ideas

a link to acquariam photography would also be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Al

I have the same fish but it is all blue, no yellow stripes, so what is mine,
I was told it was a blue Ahli?

I definitely agree with Redforeman's ID of Aulonocara-hard to ID species
from photos like this.
I'd vote for Aulonocara hybrid.

it's a peacock, Aulonocara of some kind... front end of ? and a rear end of
a jacobfreirgi.... (sp?)

There's a chance it's a copadichromis of some kind... some have a white line
across the top which would indicate it 'could' be, and at the same time,
could be a crossbred peacock...

Thanks for all the responses (sorry for top post)

Thats what I am afraid of a hybrid - I'll try and take a better picture to
see if it helps ID. But I am upset both at the LFS and myself - I guess I
believed they would not sell hybrids - but at the same time they didn't have
a proper name to ID it so I should have known.

If I am able to get better clearer pictures I'll post again incase it is a
true species

thanks again

Al

you really had pretty good pictures, the problem is, there are so many
different peacocks, and so many different cichlids in general, and it's just
hard to ID a fish that looks like 3 different ones...

http://www.petsforum.com/was/comp.html has a bunch of links to use, but I
use this for some of the better pics of peacocks...
http://www.ohiexchange.com/armke/

they have some rare, and some real nice peacocks...

after looking at yours, I am nearly positive it's a peacock, but which one,
Not sure...
It could be a
Aulonocara sp. Chipoka juvenile....
Aulonocara sp. Maleri Island Yellow
Aulonocara sp. Steveni
Aulonocara sp. Sturartgranti - more popular than most others..

Once again thanks

looking at the links my guess was a Aulonocara sp. Sturartgranti as well
the closest one is the maulana bicolor"

But - I guess i should treat him and his females as possible hybrids

Thanks for your help
Al
