I have a beautiful 7 inch diameter discus which has been acting strangely
lately. Most of the time it either lays on the bottom on its side or sits in
a corner. About once an hour it dashes around the tank, usually in tight
circles. Sometimes it dashes to the surface making a splash.
I suspect this is some kind of infection of the swim bladder or the inner
ear.

Is this the dreaded "whirling disease" ?

Is there any hope of a cure ?

I really want to save this beautiful discus. Please help ?

how long have you had it?
what might have changed in the tank...add any fish?
any other discus in there?

I am assuming you are seeing no external signs of sickness besides
behavior...(no fungus or sign of infection)

you got plenty of air in there (good surface water movement) right temp
(=~82df)

it could be nothing...discus are tough but sometimes tempermental
fish...especially at that size,

also it could be getting old at that size...how long have you had it again?

I had a discus that did that for about a month after she was very sick...but
she is back to normal for a while now...I am sure she is about 6" or more.
Watch the fish more...that will help too, so you can tell what exactly is
going on and provide us with more details.

dont medicate it...maybe raise temp.

Water conditions are fine. It sems the discus was infected by some new fish
put in its tank. Unfortunately it jumped from the tank and the cat got it.

Thanks anyway,
Keith
