My tank's ntirite levels dropped from 2.4ppm to less than .3 so it's pretty
well cycled and ready to go.

now to add the fish!!

I am thinking a breeding group of auloncara - eureka red
A breeding group of red empress.
some red zebras
can anyone suggest some other species that will go well here? I wanted e.
blues but apparantly they will interbreed with the eurekas.

I know you guys might frown on this, but I'm going to get most of these fish
at a coloured stage.

so the obvious problem I have is adding the fish to prevent a huge fight as
they sort out territory.

I was thinking of adding the 3 peacocks first, then another 6 every week
after that until I have about 25-30 in there.

would it maybe be better to add them all together or maybe all the males
first, and then the females etc..

your help is appreciated wise folk!!

opinions vary, and Rich can elaborate a bit too, peacocks are less
aggressive than zebras, and might not breed if you have a dominant/bully
zebra in the tank, the peacocks may spend more time fleeing the zebras than
looking for a mate....

maybe consider just keeping peacocks...

I'd add each trio, within a week or so of each other, and you'd be so much
better off getting them when they are juveniles, and not sub adults.... as
juveniles, they can be social, no stress, less aggression over territory,
and overall, it's just simpler....

add a zebra or two in that mix, they will certainly be active, but may not
breed at all....

thanks for your tips red, I have been warned that peacocks will interbreed
though? it seems like a no-win situation :-(

fish will be fish... and almost any fish will, if conditions are right, but
I wouldn't worry too much about that, because even that it DOES happen, it's
rare, it's not normal, it's not even common... it only happens *IIRC* when
two species are similarly colored, and timed, if two sets of breeders in
same tank 'happen' to go into a rut at the same time... I believe that to be
a rare occurance...
