My petsmart has a bunch of juvies, Aulonacara Eureka Reds, and they are
gorgeous.... I want some and have to talk the SO into letting me re-arrange
the guppy farm to accomodate it... we've got 65 guppy fry that are almost
ready for delivery, but I'm not sure I can wait much longer.... these gupps
need a home, they're going to schools in the area, and 2 stores are taking
them too, so maybe in a day or so.... petsmart also has that Chrysonatus
too, I wonder if I can house them together.... anyone know?

If you're speaking of Copadichromis chrysonatus, they're ideal tank mates for
Aulonocara species. They're the only known Copadichromis species that spawns in
open water. If it's Haplochromis chrysonatus, similar in appearance, but now
known as Copadichromis azureus, make sure you have a few rocks in the tank with
a nice sand substrate. They'll dig down next to the rock to make spawning pits.
Both fish are beautiful and similar in coloration, but they do have different
spawning methods. In either case, both would be great tankmates.

I have not personally kept chrysonatus, but my experience is that the "Haps"
of that group, like virginalus and "borleyi" (not sure of current correct
name)
are pretty peaceful for cichlids. I think they would make a great display
with the peacocks in a good size tank. I tried keeping peacocks with mbuna
a long time ago. They got hammered by the Pseudotropheus. I have kept
borleyi with Aulonocara baenschi. they got along OK for a while, but as the
borley got bigger they seemed to outcompete the peacocks. They never
attacked them, but they were really aggressive feeders and the peacocks just
seemed to be overwhelmed and his a lot. Moved the borleyi to a differnt tank
and saw a lot more of the peacocks. This was in a 55, so it was probably too
small for all of them anyway, and the baenschi are known for being kind of
wimpy.
Good luck.

yeah, I had a borleyi with some peacocks, and yes, I learned too that it
wasn't the best idea... that tnk had mbuna in it, and the ps. zebras and ps.
socoffoli's were meaner than... well... that ended most of my peacocks....
I think I may get 1 of each, not getting females might lessen their need for
aggression, there are however lots of plants, so I may have to rethink that
process...
Thanks for the input ppl... was going to say guys, but never can tell sex by
usernames....
