Any good recommendations for Detritus build-up? I inherited a 100
gallon tank with a DSB, but I've been battling high nutrient loads since
I got it. I suspect that the DSB is loaded with detritus.

You could sell it as miracle mud. :-) hehe

I don't normally recommend vacuuming, but you could
vacuum it in small areas, going down just a little
into the sand, and run the dirty water into a
blue-jean filter, with the exiting water returning
to the sump, then dump the mud out of the blue-jean
filter into a bucket, and return the critters back
to the tank.

Got any worms in your other tanks? Catch any that you can, and dump them in the
new one. Rd hermits are also good. Conchs work too.

I have gone without a dsb and have had much better results. They are
fine if you have the right maintenance, but without the right setup it's
a detritus sink. I read a thread on Reef Frontiers where Anthony Calfo
discussed that the successful dsb tanks have great flow, a great
skimmer, and a balance of bioload, cleanup crew and dsb fauna. He stated
that for most hobbyists it will save a lot of headaches if you go ssb or
bb.

He recommends the remote dsb as a trouble free option while reaping the
benefits of a dsb.

I have experimented with a bare bottom, and have
found it to be interesting, but not as good in the
long run.

I have found that while having a refugium with deep
sand bead is beneficial, the remote deep sand bead
is not able to do the same as a deep sand bead
located in the main aquarium where the action is at.

duh no wonder here we have one dumbass running a sand "bead" where
others are usuing a sand "bed"..see what did I tell you about this
group being full of dumbasses! I bet this dumbass has his anal beads
mixed up with his sand be, so I sure hope he does not try and cram a
sand bed up his poop chute.but then againb it may be the norm for this
clown.

The idea of deliberately trying to keep the sand
very shallow, ie ShallowSandBed, in order to prevent
it from being a deep sand bead is foolishness.

Of course it would help if I'd stop spelling "bed"
wrong. :-)

I adulation watching them if diving in the keyes or off miami, so I got a brace for my aquarium. I was acquisitive that I could pair them, but they fought so I bare to abstracted them. I may try if I get a 180.
