View Full Version : Tank questions

I have a 55gal tank w. the following (cichlids are all male):
Pleco
Red Peacock (mature)
Azureus (mature)
Eureka red (juvenile)
Sunshine peacock (juvenile)
Orange Peacock (juvenile) <-- Is there such a thing? He looks like the Red.
Neolamprologus Brichardi (mature)
and 4 red-clawed crabs :-D
I'm 6 mos. into this little hobby and seem to have found a nice combo of
inhabitants. I know the Brichardi is a Tanganyika fish while the others are
Malawi, but they all seem to get along.. erm, swimmingly. Anyone see any
compatibility issues? The Azureus has staked out one end (digging to the
glass under a holey rock) and the Brichardi has staked out the opposite end
(also digging). I have a good variety of rockwork and plants in the tank,
and none of the fish are overly aggressive to each other, w. the exception
of Mr. Azureus, who gets feisty towards the Red Peacock sometimes.
THanks for any feedback. Most of my fish (w. the exception of the
Brichardi), were bought as juveniles from Petsmart, since the LFS only sells
adults for quite a premium.

Myself Rich, I would be worried about the crabs eatting my fish... Orange
Peacock.... I would think he would look very similair to an OB marmalade Cat
( sorry, I don't know the latin name for this fellow ). I have a trio of the
Marm's, the big male has a violet blush, while the females appear to be more
OB'ed. I am not sure what a Eureka Red is , I can only assume it is a Red
Zebra. Anyways sounds like a nice combination of fish, and they have worked
out thier problems together ( or as well as one might expect ). Happy Fish
keeping...

Crabs eating the fish? I was worried about it being the other way
around! :-o Actually, they seem to mind their own. The crabs stay
hidden in the holey rock until nightfall for the most part. The Orange
peacock I'm referring to came from a tank labeled "Orange/Red
Peacocks". Who knows... it's probably the same as the red I already
have in there. Hard to tell when they're young. Interestingly enough,
within a few hours of being introduced to the tank, he was already
dominating & chasing the slightly larger Sunshine, who'd been in there
for several weeks already. Guess the Sunshine's a wimp.
I was also watching their behavior last night and underestimated the
territorial behavior of the Azureus. He was pecking at the Pleco
whenever it came near his little dig-out hole.
This is the Eureka I'm referring to:
