I have a new 44 gallon tank, and notice a strange haze in the water. I used
a product called "Stress coat", which is similar to "Novaqua", when I put
the water in. Does this product, which contains aloe vera in some form,
cloud the water in any way?
Thanks!

How new is the tank? How long has the water been in the tank? Are there fish
in the tank? "Stress Coat" is colourless/transparent. I have never seen this
stuff cloud water.. When you say cloudy water, I am thinking your tank is
starting to cycle, which is the formation of bacteria needed for bio logical
filtration. This is normal, and may last a few days or so... Then you can
very slowly start to add your fish...

I have had the tank just over a week, and put a 6" oscar in it the second
day. I noticed the haze right away after using the stress coat, and that is
why I was thinking that was what caused it.

William... I would suspect the Oscar helped the tank to start to cycle..
Oscars are generally a messy eater.. So the food it does not eat most likely
started to decompose starting the tank water to cycle... Keep in check of
the ammonia levels and watch the nitrates as they will start to climb... I
would try and only feed the Oscar lightly, until the bio filter catches up..
Your going to have to do water changes as the ammonia levels climb to toxic
levels to ensure the Oscar survives.. On a new tank like this I would have
tossed in feeder fish ( ie 5 or 6 guppies or 2 goldfish feeders..) instead
of a more expensive fish.. All in all it sounds normal though.. Eventually
your going to need a much larger tank for the Oscar as he will grow to a
fairly large size.. ( typical of most of the America's cichlids )..
Happy fish keeping, and welcome to the wonderful hobby of aquatics..
