I finally got around to sifting all the crush coral out of my sand.
But, in the midst, I found a hard shell crab, about the size of a silver
dollar, white body, and black pincers. I have a pic that I'll get off
my camera tomorrow.

I found parts of the sand that had turned to mud. I found only two
small bristle worms, so maybe I can get some detrivores to take hold now
with the lighter sand. I added 40# of silty (sugar) sand to the mix.

I would not worry about having a little crushed
coral gravel in the sand. Actually the bristle worms
prefer rock.

I pulled out a 5 gallon bucket of crushed coral. In a sand bed loaded
with detritus, I found two small bristle worms. That's it. It's been
my first experience with a DSB and it hasn't been a good one.

We'll see what happens this time around. I'll give the sand bed a few
months and then I'll add some detrivores back in.

My 110g I run with just a shallow sand bed of maybe 2-3 centimeters. So
far, I like that approach better.
