I have two tanks that I'm putting into a house I'm buying - a 105 gallon
with a wooden stand and a 55 gallon with the older wrought-iron angle iron
stand. I'm not sure exactly what type of surface the tanks will be placed
on in the new place (on carpet over pad over slab, on laminate wood flooring
over slab, etc.), but in the past I've had problems with the tanks not being
exactly level, especially the 105 when it's on carpeting and it settles in
for a while and compresses the carpet. I'm also concerned with protecting
the flooring if I place it on the laminate wood flooring part of my house.
I was thinking of putting a piece of best-quality-I-can-get 5/8th inch
plywood cut to fit under the bottom of the base of the 105 tank between the
wood floor and the tank stand bottom - it'd also spread the weight a bit
more across the floor under the tank. I think the 55 gallon would be OK
with just squares of that plywood under each of the legs to protect the
floor.
Any other suggestions that would work better? Thanks!
