an OB Peacock and a Fulleborni?? I picked up mothes back three fish
believeing they were fulleborni... Now after seeing some "OB peacocks" being
offered on Aquabid.com ( they looked identicle to my "fulleborni" ) I know
question it. I know at times these fish get confused by "novices" ( which in
the world of cichlids I profess to be ).

Doesn't the Fuelleborni have an odd shaped downward turned mouth. This
would be the most distinctive difference between an OB of the two types.
When older, the Peacock's body shape is taller as well (assuming that I'm
even thinking of the right fishes).

The fish I got from a local private dealer thought he was selling me
Fullebornis. My wife is the better a noticeing the minute differences, she
thought they were Fulleborni as well.. Well time comes along and these fish
mature, and boy are they very nice looking fish, we have a pair breed ( as I
write, the female is still holding her brood ). Well any ways one of the LFS
( this fellow apparently knows Ad Konnings and purchases breeding stock from
him ) has some fulleborni, and the dark colouration spots seem a little
different to me, and there seemed to not be as many. Then I see some OB
peacocks up for auction on Aquabid, the males on that auction appeared to
look a lot more like large male I have here.. Do the fulleborni males get a
purple/violet sheen to them? Do the fulleborni males have an intense yellow
colouration to them? I could never find a great photo to compare them to, so
I am trying my best to describe them..
Thank you.. Tim...

The only Fuellborni I've seen are the generic types, blue and adults are
a nice purple/violet, and the OB which are OB (orange blotched). I
wouldn't put too much credence in markings. Check out the web sites
(google images & fish sites) for samples, though google images always has
a few mistakes.

I took a trip over to Aquarium World in Apple Valley, CA. Seeking advice of
the owner, Todd, who is quite notable knowledgable on African cichlids ( the
show tank in his place contains an intresting mix of malawi's and even
Victorian's.. ). I showed him the only picture of my fish ( not a great
picture though ) he felt they were some form of OB Peacocks. Odd thing is,
these Peacocks ( the male for sure ) exhibits a very nice violet/purple hue
over top the dark blotching and very brightly coloured yellow. I wish I
could scan a picture of these guys to post on the binanry NG. When the
female drops here brood, I am going to take him a few to see when they
mature a bit. I looked at his OB fulleborni he had in his s/tank and they
really didn't look like what I had, as the mouth was very differently shaped
( almost like a Koi or thats what it reminded me of ). Thanks for your
suggestion... I will have myself a peek see on the pictures...
