you can do a couple of things....
as a new mother you could catch the baby and put it in a net breeder
that hangs inside the tank until it gets a little bigger or you could
just leave it alone and there is a possibility that it will survive on
its own (if the baby has grown a little it has a better chance of not
being eaten).
in the wild the babies learn to hide and survive leaving the best of the
best.
good luck with your new baby......you might have more hiding in the
tank.

I left mine in the tank. They would feed off of the little scraps
that fell their way, and they always grew up to be big strong
independent cichlids.... I would leave them.

The advice I got from my local shop where the owner is into cichlids
is to buy a couple of predators
It was he said a good way to stop cross breeding!
