Do a hareem for the Hap's. The females in my understanding usually are not
ready to breed until at least eight mothes of age. What you might be able
to do is find a book or two on breeding Africans.. I believe Ad Konings has
a fantastic book on breeding Malawi's.

I have one male and one female electric blue in a Mbuna tank. The female is
about 2 1/2", the male about 4". They have bred 3 times. The first time I
stripped her and got 13 fry all of which I still have. The 2nd time I
apparently moved her too soon to a isolation tank as I wanted to have her
raise the fry on her own however she spit the eggs and although she did go
around and pick them back up none hatched. She is presently holding again.

Makes me think Rick, that I should have had some Hap babies by now.. We
lost out female blue about a month ago, ( due to our stupidity ). She was
approximately 3 and half inches long ( not including tail )and I am certain
she would have had a hugh brood..

Granted my OB peacock has breed with the other avaivable OB female. I am
awaiting the arrival of the first mouthful of little wonders from the first
OB.. She should be dropping very soon.. ( next day or two ).. The male has a
violet hue to him, which is very striking against the yellow body and black
blotches...

Tim... Happy fish keepin....

I just stripped my female blue again tonight and got 27 fry. The first batch
yielded 13 so she is getting better each time. That's enough of them as I
had to put those fry in with 13 electric yellows that my female spit out a
few days ago. Right now I'm up to my eyeballs in fry between the blue,
yellows, Aspidoras, tiger barbs, Kribs , Falcatas, Endlers and Geophagus I
literally have hundreds.

Falcata's??? What are these?? Sounds like your fish are busy breeders...
Never had much luck in saving the eggs from my Rosey Barbies or my Black
Skirt tetra's... Want some guppy fry? j/k.. I imagine the endlers breed like
crazy... If I had the room I would like to try and get some of them...
Although they seem pretty tough to get a hold of here... ( I never looked
very hard, but seen them the odd time at PetSmart ).. You don't live in
Southern Cali do you? I might actually be intrested in some endlers ( just
three of them of course...)

slight typo on that, they are Giraridinus falcatus, a small livebearer,
quite plain , much like a guppy female however the one's I have are referred
to as "lampeye" as they have a splash of color by each eye. Very prolific
breeder. The Endlers breed same as Guppies and I found it necessary to
separate the males and females to prevent overpopulation. The males are
quite beautiful and the one's I have a not kept with any other livebearers
so to prevent any type of hybrid fry. I couldn't be farther away from you as
I am in Winnipeg , Canada, about two hours drive North of Grand Forks N.D.
This morning is is -46 with the wind-chill, and that is even too cold for
those of us who are supposed to be used to it. I have bred White Skirts and
am just waiting for a couple of tanks to open up at which time I will breed
my Serpae and Black Skirts. The fry of these fish are very small and that is
a problem for a lot of people trying to breed them. You gotta provide them
with the smallest foods.

Hi Rick,
More than 20 years ago I maintained the very large show tank at
Brandy's/Old Spag Factory downtown Wpg. Just curious if you know if it's
still there? It was a nice ciclid tank back then...
I'm in Nova Scotia now, so can't easily check myself <g>.

Perhaps sometime this year Rick, I might be as far as I am now.. I am a
Prarie dog my self.. My sister was born just outside of Winterpig ( a nick
name I have heard it called ).. I call Moose Jaw home, although I have been
in Southern Cali for a few years.. When I return, I am going to defianatly
go into breeding, as there seems to be a bit of demand for more exotic
fish...

Perhaps i really should proof read before I post...

The first should have read, "Perhaps some time this year, I might NOT be as
far as I am now..."

Tim ( really needing to proof read more often )

the original location at McDermot between Princess and King St closed a
couple of years ago due to a lease disagreement. The owners reopened at the
Forks Market in Winnipeg. I frequented the Old Spaghetti Factory many times
but I can't for the life of me remember the fish tank.

then your no stranger to cold temps. Come on home, there are great Aquarium
Societies in Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton but I don't think there is one in
Moose Jaw. The Aquarium Society of Winnipeg is putting on a fish expo "Got
Fish" on April 10-11th and hope to have about 400 or more entries.

Soon Rick, soon.. In tote my wife, kids, dogs, and tanks... Three 55's, a
30, a 20 and a pair of 10's..( when I get there I am going to invest in a
numerous amount of 20g rubbermaid containers as glass tanks are very pricey
up north, for fry tanks etc..) Looking forward to starting up back on the
praries.. As mentioned, perhaps starting a hatchery for tropicals and
Mbuna.. There a local fellow I talk to here from time to time, he mentioned
he gets his breeding from Ad Konings.. I think I have to keep in touch with
him, so I can get selected breeding stock sent to me from time to time..
Apparently, this fellow is going to start breeding Victorians at his
hatchery.. Quirky fellow ( no less quirky than myself though ) but
absolutely brilliant on African Cic's...

Tim Always looking at the North Star, knowing the way home..

keeping that contact would be a great idea especially if he can get you some
nice Victorians, many of which are now endangered. I use mostly 10 g glass
tanks as breeders and they can be had occasionally at Pet Cetera stores for
$9.99. Keep in touch, I'm always traveling West to visit family in Calgary,
who knows maybe we can get together and talk fish in person one day. My
email address will be changing at the end of the month but I can always be
reached via . Check out our Aquarium Society website at www.asw.ca
if you get a chance.

I would presume then Rick you come through Moose Juice once in a while.. I
suppose you might need the break after 6 hrs of driving.. How much of the
Hwy 1 twining has been completed in the east part of the province (SK of
course ) ?? I remember the stretch from Indian Head to the provincial line
was a bad death trap for years... I am looking forward to continuing my
hobby in an area where the accumulation of qaulity decent priced fish is not
very common..

that Highway is a work in progress but slow progress in being made. I
traveled West last fall and I know a lot more of the highway was done ,
can't remember if it was completed near Indian Head or not but I don't think
so.
