View Full Version : What Hood or Glass for this Tank

I aquired a 50 gal tank for which I do not know the brand.
My problem is: What hood or glass (versa-top?) will fit.
Size is 36" wide x 18" deep x 19" high. A 50 gal breeder I'm told.
My problem is: It has no inner ledge which will hold a standard
AGA Glass Versa-top or Hood. Anyone know of a Hood or a
glass cover which will fit this tank? Any Help will be appreciated.
Thank You,
LJ (Rick) Richards

I've got a 40 gallon breeder with the same length and width. I got the
glass top at PetCo and a "GLO" light from PetsMart. The top won't work
for you if your tank has no ledge, but the light hooks over the tank and
would work fine. It's for planted tanks and is a little spendy, but if
you're going to have live plants as well as fish it's worth it.

Make one.........most hoods that are sold in places like Petco etc are
way overpriced. They are not hard to make and all parts but lights are
readily available form most any big box builder supply. If you can cut
a board and nail them or screw them together homebrew is the way to
go. There is ways around the no ledge bit, as I have already added a
ledge for a hood by using weldon glue and strips of styrene plastic I
found in a hobby shop. They are dark grey but you do not see them.
They work just as good as any moded in ledge by AGA etc.
Buy some decent lights form Hellolights or AHSupply...........homebrew
is hard to beat and need not be overly complicated..ite more or less
just a simple box turned upside down on the tank/
