a Guppy, a Gourami, 2 Barbs, a few Goldies, and a Black Moor, all in the
same tank. She told me she changes the water frequently, does ph
testings, and uses a conditioner. She also varies their foods. They are
thriving.
The question is: How can Tropicals live with Coldwater fish? They all
get along, too. No fighting.

I had 3 Rosy Barbs in my pond over the winter and I measured the temp
at one point at 2c. Not only did they thrive but they now have about 10
little fry swimming around among my Koi as of Friday.
I once raised the issue of leaving some Koi and GF in a heated tank with some
Angels and Platies and other easy tropicals (set at around 25c) in another
aqurium forum. I was roasted for being cruel and an idiot. The Koi & GF are
now in the pond and enjoy summer temps of around 28-29c and love it.
So everyone who will tell you about stress and stunted growth are merely
spewing what they read elsewhere.

in general, trops will not like the high wastes/nitrates produced by Goldfish. And
if the trops are small, the GF will eat them. anything with a sucker mouth like
plecos will eventually turn to stripping off the GF slime coat and that leaves the GF
open to infection.
I agree. GF and koi do best at higher temps too. they can tolerate cold water, even
winter fine under ice but they grow fastest in warmer water. Ingrid

Stunted anything is not goo0d. Even humans that arte stunted have
internal problems and short lives. Yes, and animal or fish etc may
"adapt" to thew size of its environment but it suffers in the
process. If it was not an issue there would not be a need for larger
tanks as every fish could be kept in a 2.5 gal aquarium just
fine..which we all know is not even close to being humane or healthy.
