Do Water Clarifiers Really Work?

Do they instantly rid the water of cloudiness? Or is it more of a
"bandaid" thing?

There is a reason your water is clouidy.address that situation and
resolve the problem. Too much feed, too many fish for system, light,
algae / bacterial blooms, type of feed are all areas that have
potential to cause cloudy water, with perhaps feed type and over
feeding ansd fish load being among the most typical. What kind of
filtration do you have., Activated carbon / charcoal will clear water
up as will the various clarifiers, but its only a bandaid and will
resurface if cause is not corrected.

in addition I have found increasing the amount of biofilter or home for the biobugs
helps a lot. and every time I left the heater turned off I would get the white
cloudies in the tank.. my biobugs insisted on 75o water. Ingrid

I have an undergravel filter and the bubble wand.

I would seriously think about tossing the undergravel filter and use
a simple yet very e4ffective hang on tank type filter. I suggest the
proven and tried and work horse Hagen Aqua Clear hang on back tyupe
power filter. EAsyt to setup and it does not rely on propreitary
filter media..so overall it is much cheaper to operate and cleaning is
a snap. There is no cleaning with undergravel filters, and while they
do work they are more prone to all kinds of problems that do not dpo
the fish much good. With thre Aqua clear you could pitch that bubble
wand also as thr AC will disturb the surface ewater if you set it to
angle back slightly with th4ebottom adjustment and it fdoes a great
job of aerating and filtering the water. If your on a 5 gal; tank, go
ahead and get the mini 20 or even the AC40 filter, they are not that
big and the bigger the better when it comes to filters anyhow.........
