Straining it in a colander after it has fish waste in it? Isn't that
disgusting? I know it's expensive though to keep buying new bags.
What do you do? Use a gravel vacuum?

Some of my tanks have gravel that is over 20+ years of age on it. It
does not wear out. I use natural uncolored gravel in all but a few
tanks and those are very small species tanks like a betta, but for the
most part its natural gravel or sand all the way. Get used to vac'ing
it and if necessary washing it in a collander, or go bare bottom
tanks, and reduce feeding and also reduce fish load in the tank. In
such as hort period of time that you have had your tank according to
when you first started posting, it certianly should not be in need of
removing and washing at this early a stage. Your doing too much
feeding, fish loading and cleaning on such a small tank too
frequently......
