Hi Y'all,
I am new to this group. I've been keeping goldfish
for quite some time now, just goldfish.
Just picked up 6 Red Devils at the LFS, I've read up on them
as much as i could, but i'm still wondering how sensitive these fish are.
Is there anything to watch out for? I've never kept Chiclids before,
do they like a higher or lower PH than normal 7.0?
Tank is 220gallon, 75 degrees, PH7.5, GH/KH 80/40 ppm

Red Devil are not sensitive to water chemistry, they are tough as nail.
They are highly aggressive in smaller tank, but their aggression level drops
considerably when kept in larger tank(200-300G). Though your tank size is
good, you may still have problems when they reach 7-8", prepare to say bye
to other fish when 2 of them start to mate.

Must be a new world ciclids.. They always seem so much more aggressive at
breeding than the malawi's... I have only had a few Oscars and currently
have one Convict ( target fish for the Malawi's...) Perhaps the target might
be responsible for the breeding thats going on right now... ???

You mean the male will attack all other fish
besides the mate? Does that mean I will have
to move the other ones into a seperate tank?
So far they seem OK, they are eating, but only
sinking pellets, they never go near the surface.
They are hanging in the bottom of the tank. Is
that Normal behaviour?

I would bet both male and female would attack if they were breeding...
Considering you just brought them home, I would think they are nervous to
thier surroundings and they will eventually go to the top for food... I
would think they are nervous like new koi in a new pond..
