Hi
I have four groups of fish in my malawi tank
I've recently heard there's a hybridisation rish between the
aulonocara stuartgranti chipoka and the protomelas steveni taiwan reefs
is this true?
with a good supply of females of each species is it likely to happen?
the taiwan is the dominant fish of the tank, but the peacock is showing full
color...
I checked out the cichlid recipe's compatibility chart before getting these
fish and it said they would be fine, so I really dont know who to believe

With good ratios of males to females, hybridization is not likely. The risk does
increase if a fish becomes hyper-dominant. That is, the male in charge of the
tank, sees the entire tank as his and his alone. This means the females are his
and his alone. If your aquarium is at least 55 gallons, and your male P. steveni
isn't chasing your A. stuartgranti every time the peacock makes an appearance,
then I wouldn't worry about hybridization. If you watch the tank enough, you'll
see if it looks like the P. steveni is trying to breed with the peacock females.
