A Stuartgranti

Hello,
It looks like my A. Stuartgranti (Chiwindi) have grown up enough that I can
sex them. Looks to me like I've got 1 male and 5 females. Subordinate
males should still show blue and yellow right? Anyway, does anybody think
there is any chance of me successfully introducing another male to this
group? I've read that these are not real agressive cichlid's but I'm not
exactly sure what that means. Oh yeah, it's a 58 gallon tank with lot's of
rocks. If that doesn't work, I might try and sell a few of the females I
guess. Maybe add some Kubutu (Turquoise/lacustris) Rainbowfish?

Thanks in advance!

To be sure, you'll want to vent the fish. It is possible for a subdominant male
to appear as a female. Study the vents on the male, then check the rest. You
should see a clear difference. If you do add another male, most likely only one
of the males will take a dominant role. So only one male will show full color.
As long as you have enough hiding places for the sub dominant male, they should
be ok.

Add another male, for what reason??? it'll only cause problems with your
dominant male, being more stressed by a threatening sub... Leave 'em alone,
you've already got an impressive harem.... let 'em be happy...

if you have a spare tank, you could take the dominant male away for a while
to see if your 'females' are actually sub males
