September 5th 08, 09:56 AM
Please join us this Saturday for another great meeting of the Silicon
Valley Aquarium Society. Our originally scheduled speaker, Art North,
has had a family emergency and will not be speaking. Our thoughts are
with him during a difficult time. We wish him and his family well.
We are very happy to have Max Gillis speaking to us with a brand new
world premiere presentation. He will present "The Magnificent
Sharpshooting Archerfish". He will show us how to set up and maintain
a habitat for the 2 most common archerfish species. If you've never
seen an archer shoot a cricket from a vine, you're in for a treat! I
really hope there's some video of that. I can't wait to see it.
Max was introduced to the aquarium hobby when his older brother gave
him a 10 gallon starter kit for his 10th birthday. He started with
common fish like tiger barbs, but soon moved on to cichlids and
killifish. A Red Texas cichlid spurred his interest in more unusual
fish. His search for more and more unique oddballs led him to his most
recent project, a 55-gallon archerfish tank.
As usual our speaker will start at 7:30. Come early to check-in for
the auction and bowl show, and to order food. We meet at the Round
Table Pizza 4400 Stevens Creek Blvd. in San Jose.
Coming October 4th - MEGA AUCTION
Get yourself organized and start filling up those boxes with stuff you
want to sell and your pockets with money to spend on the bargains you
know you'll find. Don't miss this event. It's our most popular
meeting each year and is always standing room only.
Call for volunteers
We're going to need some volunteers to help at the Mega Auction. We
need at least two sets of runners to keep things moving. We need help
behind the scenes as well.
We also need people to help in big and small ways in running the SVAS
between meetings. If you have a special skill (or even just five
minutes a month) we can really use your help.
Please contact a board member if you'd like to help.
See you on Saturday!
