View Full Version : Fishless tank cycling

Can anyone give me a source for ammonia so I can do some fishless tank
cycling? All the grocery stores near me have ammonia, but it has
surfactant in it.

How about urea? It is in many off-the-shelf fertilizers, the first
stage in the aquarium is its' conversion to ammonia ... just a thought.
I purchased an 80 lb. sack from an agricultural/agchem supply in my
area. It was less that $20USD for a lifetime supply! The stuff I use
is in "prill" form.

No one gives a **** what you use Johnnie Boi. Last I heard you put
your wifes panties in the tank to cycle it. Folks need to run right
out and buy a 80# bag of crap only you would use........ You mean its
in PRICK form like you and your momma.........

Nasty is in the persons mind. YOu into golden showers etc so be it,
but **** is a perfect source of ammonia and there is nothing ugly or
nasty about it. Were not talking about needing a liter of the the
stuff only needs about a cc or so to seed the tank................and
in no time there will be no signs of it left anywhere........

That's what I did at the grocery store, looked at the generic no-frills
stuff and every last one said "contains surfactants."
I guess I'll have to keep hunting...

**** actually is not a good source of ammonia. Urine has diluted UREA
in it, not ammonia. The nitrogenous waste byproduct by animal groups
that I know of are:
Fish and amphibians - Ammonia
Reptiles and Birds - Uric Acid
Mammals - Urea
In fish, the ammonia is excreted directly and immediately dissolves in
the water around it.
Uric acid comes out as-is. Hence why bird poop can sometimes take the
paint off a car
In Mammals, urea is diluted with water to make urine.
I honestly don't know if Nitrosomus sp. can digest urea. May need to
check...
Not that I am going to **** in my tank...

Absolutely correct. However, often you will hear the "experts/gurus"
start the nitrogen cycle with ammonia, [ammonia -> nitrites -> nitrates.]
However, it is actually, [urea -> ammonia -> nitrites -> nitrates.]
And, urea is actually 90-95% percent of the solids in urine. So, it
gets a much more "natural" nitrogen cycle going in your tanks if you
begin with urea; as, micro-organisms/phytoplankton/algaes/etc. break the
molecular bonds of urea to ammonia in the first place; you need these
organisms also ...

See Andy, your wrong, dumbass. Its that smegma that falls off your
dick in to your fish tank that gets it stinking like your momma
smells. There is a difference in **** to getting a tank started and
merely douching your momma and wife in it, or I guess in your case
your boyfriend.

I can't find pure ammonia either. You can ad some fish food like Shrimp
Pellets. I tried that in the past and it worked.

Won;t work RM........................Johnnie Smith the know it all did
not think of that.............its too simple to do it that
way...........now lets just set back and listen to his list of why its
not a good idea to use a few shrimp pellets or flakes of fish food to
iniate a cycle.................LIke Johnnie Boi said, the only proper
way is to buy "Prilled Urea" in 80# sacks so you have a
lifetime.......supply....Hmmmmmmmmmwhy even bother seeing with old
filter media with 80# of prilled urea laying around geting hard as a
rock form humidity.............Hey Johnnie BOi..........anyone ever
tell you that your a real ****ing asshole? If not, let me be the
first.YOur a real ****ing asshole dude! Understand 100% why you hang

yourself.
Best wishes,

Yes, my mother warned me about "people" like "it", just lucky not to
have encountered many in my life, I guess ... and unless I venture into
the "questionable" parts of the city here, I never encounter such vile
creatures ... perhaps we are fortunate to have "it"--"it" keeps us aware
of the dangers of such human dregs ... and, "it" provides us with a good
argument as to why owning a gun is NOT all paranoia!

Yep - yours is the first message that's gotten through my filters in
several days. And I won't see all the asinine responses this post will
trigger.
The only reason I keep checking this newsgroup is in case someone new
requests some help with something. And to see if the assholes are ever
going to give up - apparently not :-).
