Question about clown fish.

I hope this is the right group.

What in the hell is it clown fish love so much about open brain coral? I
have 2 clowns that fight for hours and hours over certain positions in front
of it.

They killed my anemone with their constant pestering.

Is it a chemical the coral releases?

Clowns desperately want a protective home. In the while, a clown in the
open ocean gets eaten.

In the wild, clowns host in (some) sea anemones. If you don't provide that
in your aquarium, then the clowns might find some close substitute instead.

There's nothing special about open brain corals, for clowns, except that
the clowns want a home with toxic chemical defenses, in order to keep away
predator fish that prey on the clowns. And open brain is a lot better than
nothing.

thanks don. they have a good home here. i've had them for over a year now in
a very healthy tank.

The brain coral was probably a ****ing slut who put out for free and
one of them wsa looking to get laid by it. I often wonder why I fart
and youb can not hear it or smell it, other times I fart and its a
little tiny toot but will filll an auditorium with funk. i'LL CLAIM
A LOUD SMELLY FART IN A HEART BEAT EVEN IF ITS NOT

The good thing about this is that if you get something like butterflies or
angelfish which have been known to attack corals, the clown fish will
drive them off with extreme prejudice.
