Fixing a broken GLASS aquarium with ACRYLIC

I have a glass aquarium with a broken side panel 12" x18".

I am considering replacing this side panel with an acrylic end piece.

Has anyone done this?

I assume that one can use silicone to stick the glass and acrylic
together. Any recommended types?

Also how much thicker are the panels of an acrylic aquarium compared
to an equivalent glass aquarium?

yea dude go forit. MIx the tank with plastic and glass and in the
meantime I'll set up a lottery on how long it stays together once its
filled..........****ing dumbass Hope its a B I G ****ing tank too.
